Massey University, History

Massey University is a university based in Palmerston North, New Zealand. It is the second largest university in New Zealand in terms of home country students. The motto of the university is “Floreat Scientia” that means “Let Knowledge Flourish”. The official website of the university is www.massey.ac.nz 

Massey University was founded in 1926 as University of New Zealand by The New Zealand Agricultural College Act. It was renamed as Massey Agricultura College in 1927. In 1961 it became Massey College, part of Victoria University of Wellington.

Massey University, USP

Massey University is the only university in New Zealand offering degrees in aviation, dispute resolution, veterinary medicine and nanoscience. Massey’s veterinary school is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and is recognized in the United States, Australia, Canada, and Britain. Massey’s agriculture programme is the highest-ranked in the New Zealand and 19th in Quacquarelli Symonds’ world university subject ranking. Massey’s Bachelor of Aviation is an internationally recognized and accredited qualification, is the first non-engineering degree to be recognized by the Royal Aeronautical Society and has ISO9001- 2000 accreditation.

Massey University’s campuses are –

  • Manawatu Campus – it houses the main administrative units of Massey University as well as the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Sciences and the Masset Business School. It is also home to the only Veterinary School in New Zealand.
  • Albany Campus – the university’s Auckland campus is located in Albany. It houses the two largest colleges on the campus with College of Science and the New Zealand Institute for Advanced Study.
  • Wellington Campus - it was created through the merger with Wellington Polytechnic in 1999. The Wellington campus primarily specialises in Design, Nursing and Communication and Journalism.

 National Senior Certificate with a diploma pass or N3 with 50% pass in Mathematics and English
