To qualify for the Free Fees scheme you must meet the following criteria of being  in the EU for at least three of the previous five years and must enrol in undergraduate course first for at least two-years.

Student visa requirements to Study in Ireland


A student can make visa application on-line and upload the required documentation, passport photograph and fee for the course. The authority concerned verifies the requisites through the on-line system.

When making an application a student must take care of the following:

  1. Check the Irish Embassy details of  documentation which is to be sent
  2. Provide a passport sized photo
  3. Ensure your passport is valid for 12 months and is not expired
  4. Provide a signed letter of application stating the purpose for visa
  5. A Letter of Acceptance from the Irish university, college or school, confirming will be received stating confirmation of enrolment for a course. The letter must have the name of the applicant and verify the duration of the course. Other things that must include are:
  •  Amount of fees payable for the course, and its confirmation.
  • If the college has taken out medical insurance on your behalf, details of this must be contained in this letter of acceptance. 

A student must also provide evidence of finances that will cover the tuition fees and cost of living expenses. He/she should have sufficient funds to support the stay without recourse to public funds, or dependence on casual employment. For that matter, a detailed statement of the bank account covering a six-month period immediately prior to the visa application with enough funds to cover the expenses should be presented. Alas, submit the official confirmation of the receipt of a scholarship.

  • The request must be made as early as possible because it normally takes eight weeks for it to be processed. It may take longer in some cases.
  • If you get approval for a visa, the Embassy to which you sent your documents will affix a visa to your passport.
  • In case of refusal, the appeal the decision within 2 months.
