The Women s Studies Department and Program at the University of Maryland enjoys a global reputation for new methodologies and exciting new research that expands the depth and reach of knowledge on women s lives. The Ph.D. program offers five areas of studies for doctoral students. The Gender, Race, Racialization, and/or Diaspora Studies area offers students in-depth exposure to Black Women s Studies, and/or Ethnic and Diaspora Studies (Asian, Latina, Jewish). The Art, Culture, Technologies, and Social Change area s focus is both local and global where students examine literature, digital humanities, and arts activism; feminist, human rights and civil rights movements; or political economy and social justice. In the Bodies, Gender and Sexualities area, students interrogate the politics of women s health; lesbian and queer theory; masculinities; or technoscience; The Gendered Labor, Households and Communities area challenges students to investigate women s roles in economic systems of labor and/or the family and domestic units in local or national communities.
Transcripts, Letters of Recommendation, Statement of Purpose: (1000-2000 words), Resume, A minimum total score of 300 for Verbal and Quantitative GRE with neither score being less than 150, GMAT scores typically range from the mid-500s through the upper-700s. A minimum TOEFL score of 100 or a 7 on the IELTS.
