Drexel University 

Drexel University is a private research university, which is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Anthony J. Drexel, a billionaire, and philanthropist founded it in 1891. Initially, Drexel was known as the Institute of Art, Science, and Industry, in 1936 it was renamed Drexel Institute of Technology, and then its name has again changed to Drexel University in 1970.

Anthony J. Drexel, a Philadelphia financier, and philanthropist founded Drexel University in 1891 as the Drexel Institute of Art, Science, and Industry. The institution's original purpose was to give educational opportunities for women and men of all backgrounds in the "practical arts and sciences." Drexel University, which had previously been a non-degree-granting college, began conferring bachelor's degrees in 1914 when its 18 departments were restructured into four schools. Drexel was granted the right to confer the Master of Science degree in 1927 and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1965 by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
