Miami University was established in 1809 by an act of congress signed by President George Washington. It is one of the oldest universities in the United States and 2nd oldest in Ohio. The founder of Miami is John Cleves Symmes.

STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
The Miami University has over 600 registered student organizations which work on various fields from sports to professional fraternities, from political and religious groups to fashion, theater and LGBTQ organizations. Associated Student Government, the official student government of Miami University, represents student interests to faculty, administration and to the Ohio legislature. Miami University Men’s Glee Club is the university's oldest and longest running academic student organization. It has over 100 singers selected by an audition from all academic disciplines

Miami University is a residential university that provides a comfortable environment for students to live. It requires first and second year students to live on campus. Elliott and Stoddard Halls are the two oldest residential buildings of the campus; they are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The campus has 46 residence halls which are organized into eight quads which are –
