The Missouri University of Science and Technology was founded in 1870 as Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy which is the first technological learning institution west of the Mississippi River, later on it was renamed as Missouri University of Science and Technology.

The main library of the Missouri University of Science and Technology is Curtis Laws Wilson Library. Wilson was the dean of the university from 1941-1963.
