New Jersey Institute of Technology History

New Jersey Institute of Technology was founded in 1881 as Newark Technical School; it opened in 1885 with 88 students. The school developed into a full engineering college Newark College of Engineering and now the university holds five colleges and one school. Currently 11,600 students study in the university.

New Jersey Institute of Technology Infrastructure

NJIT is built on a 45-acre campus. New Jersey Institute of technology offers a number of services such as nonremedial tutoring, women’s center, placement service, health service and health insurance. NJIT has a gym, laboratories, research lab, library, play ground, hostels, Basketball arena, swimming pool and indoor tracks etc.

Campus

Very recently, NJIT added 220000 sq. ft of education and research space that has been newly renovated. New Jersey Institute of technology has invested $400 million dollars to make technological advancements in the campus. There are almost 60 laboratories and research institutes. Library

The library of NJIT is known as Van Houten Library. New Jersey Institute of technology has a range of electronic and print-books as well as a variety of academic books, databases and journals. A computer lab was added in the library in 1997 and currently there are around 120 computer systems for working. Another branch of the library is called the Barbara and Leonard Littman Architecture and Design Library located in the Western Hall. The total collection includes over 390000 volumes.

Housing Services

Out of the total students, more than 2000 students reside on-campus. NJIT has five halls dedicated for the purpose of on-campus accommodation which are the Redwood Hall, Cypress Hall, Oak Hall, the Laurel Hall and the Warren Street Village. Students can look for off- campus housing services in the nearby areas including Harrison, Kearny, Fairmount and East Orange.

Students Club

NJIT runs hundreds of clubs for students to explore their capabilities, expand their social circle and meet new friends. Health and Fitness

New Jersey Institute of Technology has a special center for the health and fitness of the students called The Wellness and Events Center which was opened in 2017 with a spending of $110 million. The building has a pool, locker rooms, indoor tracks, concessions, suites, offices and a fitness center. The university also has a 2500 sq. foot indoor space made for the men’s and women’s recreational sports and competitions.

Residential Life

New Jersey Institute of Technology has five buildings for the purpose of residence which house more than 2000 students. Each and every room is fully-furnished and equipped with all the needed facilities like air-conditioner, high-speed internet and televisions. New Jersey Institute of Technology campus has a Highlander Commons Dining Center which has themed food stations with full meals and snacks. Coffee is available at the Tech Café. The main dining hall of NJIT consists of 25 food stations which prepare fresh food. Part-time Jobs

New Jersey Institute of Technology offers on –campus jobs to students. The students must maintain a F1 status and are allowed to work only 20 hours a week while the classes are on and during breaks, they can work more.
