The Campus of the University of California, Santa Cruz is located in the Ben Lomond Mountain Ridge of the Santa Cruz Mountains in San Francisco. Most of the buildings of the university are located in the north of the Meadow called the Great Meadow, which is located in the southern part of the campus. The campus is bounded by Harvey West Park in the east , Pogonip open space preserve in the north, Gray Whale Ranch in the west and the city's upper west side neighborhoods in the south. The Campus is located in a heavily forested area which makes the environment of the campus green and close to nature. It has a recreational vehicle park as a form of student housing.

The main library of the University of California, Santa Cruz is McHenry library. It houses an arts and letter collection, with most of the scientific reading at the newer Science and Engineering Library. It was designed by John Carl Warnecke. The Library’s special collection includes the archives of Robert A. Heinlein and the papers and drawings of Beat poet Kenneth Patchen. It has the largest collection Of Edward Weston photographs in the country. In 2008 a ‘cyber study’ and ‘village café’ was added to the library. The library is among the biggest libraries of the country with more than 2.4 million volumes and many journals and magazines related to different fields.

ACCOMMODATION 

The University of California, Santa Cruz has 10 residential colleges. The residence halls include both shared and private rooms which can accommodate 15 to 20 students per floor and have common bathroom and lounge areas. The university also provides apartments. Apartments are shared between four to eight students with common dining, kitchen and bathrooms. In addition housing is available at the village on the lower quarry, which is available to continuing and transfer students.
