In 1966, University of Maryland Baltimore County was founded. It is a public research university in Baltimore County, Maryland. the university became the first public college or university in Maryland which included all races. On 19 September, 1966 first classes began with 750 students. The university campus is spread across 530-acres of land. University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) has the fourth highest enrollment of the University System of Maryland, specialized in natural sciences, engineering, programs in the liberal arts and social sciences as well.

In 1966, the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (also known as UMBC) is a public university situated in Baltimore County, Maryland, United States of America was established.  Since 2009, the university has been placed at 1st position as Up-and-Coming University for six years in a row, by US News & World Report rankings. It was also placed in the top ten for best undergraduate teaching (at 5th place) for six years continuously, it is also the second highest-ranked public university in the USA.

The university consists of 3 colleges and 4 Schools. UMBC offers 48 majors, 38 minors, 25 certificates and 13 pre-professional programs to students. The most popular major programs at the University of Maryland Baltimore County are; Biological and Biomedical Sciences; Computer and Information Sciences and Support Services, Social Sciences, Psychology, and Engineering as well. University of Maryland follows a 4-1-4 academic semester system.

 University of Maryland Baltimore County’s Research and Technology Park is spread across 71-acres of land. It is a home to technology, bioscience and research organizations, many of which are in partnership with the university. The research park is separated into two campuses; North Campus and South Campus. The North Campus majorly focuses on cybersecurity, and includes the Cyber Incubator and a new addition of the Cyber-Hive. The South Campus is a life-science and business incubator, and has graduated over 50 companies through its programs. The total student population on the campus is more than 13,800 of which over 11,200 are enrolled in undergraduate courses. The student to faculty ratio at the university is 19:1 and the acceptance rate is around 57%. The university provides a generous financial aid program, around 74% of its students receive one or the other form of financial assistance.

University of Maryland Baltimore County has the fourth highest enrolment of the University System of Maryland. The university is among the fastest-growing research universities in the United States of America and it is also classified as a Research University with High Research Activity by the Carnegie Foundation. The university consistently ranks among the top 200 U.S. institutions in research and development expenditures. These halls are home to over 3,900 students.  Students can select the room of their choice based on costs, hall facilities, location, availability.
