University History

University of Oregon was founded in 1876 and it is a public flagship research university. The institute is spread over 295-acres of land. Since July 2014, University of Oregon is governed by the Board of Trustees of the University. The university is categorized among one of the best Doctoral Universities in the United States of America. In 1878 the first batch graduated with five students. The university works on the Quarter system except the law school, which works on the Semester System.

Campuses

Central Campus-

The Central Campus at University of Oregon has academic buildings, an administration building, and student recreation buildings. Johnson Hall is a place where offices for higher administration and trustee offices are found, including the offices of the University President, it is located near the east of Memorial Quad, facing 13th Avenue. In 1957, Lawrence Hall was named after its first dean, Ellis F. Lawrence, the building includes the School of Architecture and Allied Arts. In 1954, Allen Hall was opened beside Lawrence Hall which is a home to the School of Journalism and Communication. 

Lorry I. Lokey Science Complex and East Campus-

On February 19, 2008, Lorry I. Lokey Science Complex at University of Oregon was dedicated to Lorry I. Lokey as he donated $25 million. Lokey Laboratories worked in collaboration with the Oregon Nanoscience and Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI). Most of the eastern campus is used for residence halls. The new residence hall, the Global Scholars Hall was opened in 2012 which is a home to returning students and students enrolled in the Robert D. Clark Honors College, College Scholars, and the global scholar language programs.

South Campus-

The South campus at University of Oregon provides athletics facilities. It has hosted various prominent track and field events like; the US Track and Field Olympic Trials, the NCAA Track and Field Championships, and USATF Championships. The HEDCO Education building and the Frohnmayer Music Center are in the vicinity of the South campus. In the southeast corner of the campus the Knight Law Centre is located. 

Knight campus-

The Phil and Penny Knight Campus at University of Oregon accelerates Scientific Impact. This campus was started as a revolution to speed-up scientific discoveries into innovations which will further improve the quality of life for people in Oregon, the nation, and the world. The campus forms the conceptual infrastructure to make Oregon as a center for both research and development, so that Oregon could become a place where companies could start-up, grow, and stay for a longer period of time. 

Libraries

The University of Oregon Libraries plays an important role in the University’s educational and research work. University libraries are focused to provide top-notch library resources, programs, and services to the students. They are dedicated towards welcoming the amazing environment for a diverse community of students and faculty. There are five libraries, one at the Eugene campus, and branches at University of Oregon Portland and at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology. The libraries provide flexible and well-equipped surroundings to everyone’s research and learning needs. They support the student learning experience, creation and administration of knowledge, and also contribute to advancements in teaching and research programs.

Housing services

On-campus- University Housing of Oregon provides residence halls, apartments and family housing. Students can select the room of their choice based on costs, hall facilities, location, availability. Room design vary per hall and include multi-person units, singles, studios, suites and some apartment-style rooms with kitchens for convenient living. Through university’s affinity housing students can live in groups of like-minded students who share the same love for sports, literature, film and course. 

Off-campus- The Office of Dean Students at University of Oregon assists students in finding off-campus housing and roommates. They provide convenient housing to students, faculty and staff nearby university. 

Medical services

 University of Oregon Health Services provides medical services to students. The staff consists of physicians and nurses who are dedicated towards their work and provide high quality medical care to students. The medical services include preventive services, evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic medical illnesses, pharmacy, dentistry, diagnostics and health education to make life easier at University of Oregon. For scheduling online appointments or for telephonic health service students can call 541-346-277.

Student’s clubs

University of Oregon offers 300+ students’ clubs and organization which provide wide range of opportunities for students to engross themselves. The Division of Student Life offers everything students need to stay active on campus.  The Associated Students of the University of Oregon (ASUO) sponsors all clubs.  The clubs range from Argentine Tango Club to the Women’s Law Forum. The sports club provide various activities like-

The University of Oregon Police Department (UOPD) patrols the university’s 295-acre campus area and surrounding neighborhoods by foot, bike, and car. University’s Police Department officers provide 24/7 assistance to deter crime, and to increase personal safety and building security. While walking around campus in the evening, students are encouraged to walk with a friend or in a group to prevent any mishap.
