William and Constance McIsaac established Ryde School with Upper Chine in 1921 as Ryde Grammar School to give boys a Christian education. For successful Island tradesmen and the professional classes who wanted their boys to receive a quality education without having to send them away to boarding school on the mainland, Ryde became the independent school of choice. The school united with the renowned girls residential school Upper Chine Girls' in 1994. In 1972, Keith Symons, the headmaster, welcomed girls for the first time into the sixth form.
Ryde School with Upper Chine goal is to offer top-notch education on the Isle of Wight so that both boarding and day students can grow in mind, body and soul. They here get an opportunity to develop their character, skills and values to embrace the opportunities of a larger world and make a positive difference. They place a high priority on teaching Christian values, but they also respect those of other faiths.
