Ruth Abernathy Presidential Scholarship

This scholarship, in association with SHAPE America, is aimed towards rewarding outstanding undergraduate and graduate student members. Having been developed by past presidents of SHAPE America, this award looks to honor deserving students, three undergraduates and two graduates, of each year with an additional three-year SHAPE America membership.

Eligibility Criteria/ Scholarship Guidelines

Must be a current member of SHAPE America or can join at the time of application.

Must major in the field of health, physical education, recreation or dance.

Must have college junior or senior status at a college/university that grants a baccalaureate. For graduate students, they must be enrolled in a matriculated full-time masters or doctoral program.

Must complete a minimum of 60 semesters/90 quarter units of college courses.

Must have a GP of 3.5 overall on a 4.0 grade point scale.

GPA scores from all institutions attended in pursuit of the applicant’s current degree will be factored into the overall GPA.

Must be a first-time recipient of this scholarship.

Must show Scholastic Proficiency, Evidence of leadership, School/Community/Professional Activity/Service, and Character attributes.

Must complete the scholarship application.

Must provide a letter from the applicant's school’s dean or registrar indicating your full-time status.

Must also provide three letters of recommendation.

Must provide a scanned copy of official transcripts from all colleges or universities attended.

Must provide a biographical sketch to be used for publication.
