Program Overview

The students learn about American culture wars and European total wars, the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic World, the history of science and the science of history. They study statecraft and spycraft, magic and medicine, utopias and dystopias, slavery and revolution, imperialism and nationalism, and capitalism and its discontents. History is, after all, as rich and diverse as the human experience, and selecting from more than 50 classes per semester, most of which feature small-group discussions of fewer than 20 members our students pursue interests, develop capacities, and foster relationships that last long after they leave Washington Square.
