QUT is ranked among the top 150 universities globally for Architecture and Built Environment (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2025), and its interior design graduates are highly sought after in the industry.
At QUT, learning interior design is all about doing, not just reading. You’ll spend most of your time in professional-style design studios and hands-on workshops, bringing your ideas to life with real materials and tools. You’ll work on collaborative projects with other students, use industry-standard software to create 2D and 3D visualisations, and connect with professionals through guest lectures, events, and up to 100 hours of work placement. This combination of studio work, digital practice, and real-world experience means you’ll graduate confident, skilled, and ready for the design industry.
Here’s what your experiential learning looks like in practice:
Design studios & workshops: Create, model, and prototype your ideas in spaces designed to mimic real professional studios.
Digital tools & software: Work with industry-standard software and digital visualisation tools to bring your concepts to life.
Work Integrated Learning (WIL): Gain hands-on experience with up to 100 hours of placement at an interior design firm or project, building your portfolio and professional network.
Collaborative projects: Team up with students from other built environment disciplines on real-life projects, learning how design teams really work.
Industry connections: Attend workshops, guest lectures, and networking events to meet professionals and get insider insights.
Field trips & site visits: Explore real spaces and learn how design works in context, seeing how theory translates into real environments.
Graduating from QUT with a Bachelor of Built Environment (Honours) (Interior Design) opens the door to a range of creative and professional roles where you can shape the spaces people live, work, and play in. Many graduates step straight into careers as Interior Designers, Spatial Designers, Space Planners, or even Set and Exhibition Designers, using the practical skills, portfolio, and industry experience they’ve built during their degree. Thanks to QUT’s focus on real-world learning and professional connections, you’ll be ready to hit the ground running in the design industry:

Graduation outcomes: Alumni have gone on to work locally and internationally on a wide variety of projects, from luxury hotels and commercial spaces to creative leadership roles in multidisciplinary firms.
