Queensland University of Technology

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Business – International at QUT combines a solid business education with a full year of study overseas, giving you real international exposure. It’s designed for students who want to build business skills and intercultural competence — especially if you dream of working on a global stage.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1:
In your first year, you'll build a strong foundation through eight core business units covering essential areas such as accounting, economics, management, data analysis, marketing, and business law. These core courses help you develop critical thinking, professional communication, and digital fluency as a base to grow from.

Year 2:
This year, you continue with core business study, and begin to specialize in your chosen major (e.g., International Business, Finance, Marketing). You’ll also engage in real-world learning experiences through work-integrated learning or industry projects, which helps you apply theory to business contexts.

Year 3 (part on-campus + international transition):
In the first half of year three, you take advanced major-specific units like International Accounting, International Logistics, International Marketing, and Intercultural Communication and Negotiation.
You also take a specially designed core unit called AMB390 Bridging Cultures – International, which helps you prepare emotionally, intellectually, and practically for your year overseas by building cultural awareness, flexibility, and cross-cultural collaboration skills.

Year 3 (second half) / Year 4:
This is your international study year. Depending on what you choose, you may go on a flexible exchange, immerse yourself culturally, or even complete a second degree with one of QUT’s partner universities.
During this time, you'll apply your business knowledge in a global context and reflect on your intercultural learning through projects or assessments.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

In the Bachelor of Business – International program at QUT, you don’t just learn theory — you start building practical business skills from day one. Through a variety of work-integrated learning experiences, you’ll apply classroom knowledge directly to real-world business challenges. Whether it’s working on live business consulting projects, completing internships, or studying overseas, you’ll be immersed in environments that reflect how global companies actually operate.

QUT’s Business School emphasizes authentic, hands-on experiences. You’ll collaborate with peers and industry mentors on workplace projects, responding to current organisational problems and pitching solutions. The program also includes a core unit called Bridging Cultures – International, designed to prepare you for overseas study by exploring intercultural communication, reflective practices, and global business customs. Additionally, QUT’s “Go Global” initiative offers access to short-term study tours, international exchanges, and internships, integrating your academic journey with meaningful cross-cultural experiences. Work-integrated learning is woven into the curriculum through placements, internships, and credit-bearing workplace projects, giving you first-hand exposure to how business works in practice.

Here’s how you’ll gain hands-on experience:

  • Global exchange year: Spend part (or all) of your third year studying at a partner university overseas, fully immersing yourself in a different business culture.

  • Bridging Cultures – International: This core unit develops your intercultural skills, with assessments before and after your year abroad so you can reflect on how you’ve grown.

  • Work-integrated learning placements: Take electives that involve internships or workplace projects in real companies, applying business theory to solve real organisational challenges.

  • Workplace projects: Collaborate with other students and receive guidance from academics as you tackle current business problems faced by organisations.

  • International internships and study tours: Through “Go Global,” you can participate in internships abroad or short-term study tours lasting from a few weeks up to a year, all of which contribute to your degree.

  • Real-world case analysis: Engage with live business cases — covering topics like international trade, ethical decision-making, global regulation, and logistics — to understand cross-border business challenges.

These experiences give you a powerful blend of academic insight and professional readiness, so by the time you graduate, you’re not just knowledgeable — you’re ready to succeed on a global scale.
