Program Overview

The Bachelor of Global Sport Business Management at ECU is a unique, industry-oriented degree that prepares students for careers in the dynamic and expanding global sport industry. This program emphasises international perspectives, leadership, and practical experience through extensive work-integrated learning and opportunities for global engagement. Students gain a comprehensive understanding of sport delivery systems, marketing, governance, finance, and strategic management. A dual degree option is available in partnership with the University of Portsmouth (UK), allowing students to earn two degrees in four years.

Course Overview

  • Year 1: Work and Career, Sport and Recreation Leadership and Programming, Sport Delivery Systems, Business Environments & Markets, Introduction to Event Management, Sport Organization Management, along with two units from your major/ minor

  • Year 2: Managing Recreation Services and Facilities, Sport and Events Funding and Finance, Sport and Leisure Law, Managing the Service Experience, Marketing in Global Sport Business, Event Operations Management, along with two units from your major/ minor

  • Year 3: Data Analysis for Marketing Insights, Sport Venues and Events, Sport Business Planning, Business Practicum, along with four units from your major/ minor

  • Majors: Human Resource Management, Management, Marketing, Sports Science, Tourism and Hospitality Management

     

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

Work Placement Unit:

  • Minimum 100 hours in a professional sport business setting

Internship Units:

  • Each requiring at least 225 hours over separate semesters

  • Aligned with students’ major and course learning outcomes

  • Hosted by professional clubs and organisations such as West Coast Eagles, Perth Heat, Western Force

Industry Projects:

  • Collaborative real-world projects embedded throughout the curriculum

  • Designed to build professional networks and develop business problem-solving skills

Professional Preparation:

  • Includes training in professional behaviour, risk management, and legal/clearance requirements (e.g., police checks, immunisations)
