Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management)

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Queensland University of Technology

Program Overview

QUT’s Bachelor of Business with a major in Human Resource Management is designed for students who genuinely enjoy working with people and want to shape how organisations grow, perform, and support their employees. This degree trains you to become a strategic HR professional — someone who understands everything from recruitment and performance development to analytics, workplace culture, and organisational change.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1

Your first year sets the foundation. You’ll explore how modern organisations operate and how people and teams fit within them. A key unit like Managing People helps you understand what makes individuals behave the way they do at work — and how those behaviours influence performance and teamwork.

Year 2

In your second year, the focus shifts to HR-specific skills. Units such as Introducing People Management and Analytics show you how data shapes better workforce decisions, while Obligations and Options for Employing People helps you understand the legal, ethical, and social responsibilities that come with managing employees.
This is also the year when you customise your degree by choosing a minor, a second major, or business electives that fit your interests.

Year 3

Your final year brings everything together. You'll learn how to attract and select the right talent through Recruiting and Selecting People, and dive into performance and growth through Developing Talent. The capstone unit, Creating Value through People, gives you the chance to apply everything you've learned to real HR challenges — preparing you for the workplace with genuine confidence.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

In the Bachelor of Business (Human Resource Management) at QUT, you don’t just learn about HR — you actually step into the role. The whole program is built around giving you real, practical experience, so you’re not just absorbing theory but using it in situations that feel like genuine workplace challenges. You’ll work with real case studies, collaborate with industry partners, and learn from teaching staff who are active HR professionals themselves. Because they’re involved in research and consultancy, they bring the latest HR issues straight into your classroom.

QUT’s Work Integrated Learning (WIL) framework makes sure you get hands-on exposure throughout your degree. You can choose dedicated internships, take experiential learning units, and complete capstone projects that mirror major organisational decisions — from workforce planning to managing change across a business. By the time you finish, you’ll have the confidence and the practical mindset employers look for.

Here’s how you’ll build those real-world skills:

Experiential Learning Unit (“Innovation, Ideas and Enterprise Skills”) — This unit pushes you to think creatively and work collaboratively, tackling genuine business problems with a focus on innovation, teamwork, and project execution.

Capstone Project (“Real-World Ready – Business Capstone”) — In your final year, you’ll bring everything together through a major project that focuses on strategic HR issues like workforce planning, organisational change, or HR policy development. It’s a realistic, future-focused experience.

Case Studies & Industry Guest Lectures — Throughout the degree, you’ll dive into real HR scenarios and learn directly from industry guests who share what’s happening in the HR world right now.

Strategic HR & Analytics Software — In units like People Management and Analytics, you’ll build your ability to use data for decision-making — from recruitment insights to performance and reward strategies.

Professional Membership & Networking — The program also gives you pathways to join professional bodies like the Australian Human Resource Institute (AHRI), helping you start building your network while you’re still studying.

With these experiences woven into your degree, you won’t just graduate with knowledge — you’ll graduate with confidence, connections, and a portfolio of real work that shows employers you’re ready to step into the HR world.
