Bachelors of Cyber Security / Business

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Griffith University Gold Coast Campus

Program Overview

This double-degree combines the best of two worlds: hands-on cyber security skills and foundational business knowledge. It’s perfect for someone who wants to understand how to protect data and networks and also appreciate how security fits into real-world business operations — preparing you to both solve technical problems and make strategic business decisions.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1
In your first year, you’ll build a solid base in computing and business fundamentals. You might study course units like “Fundamentals of Cyber Security”, “Programming & Data Management”, and a core business unit introducing concepts like management and decision-making. This gives you a feel for how IT and business intersect — so you start thinking like both a technologist and a future business professional.

Year 2
As you move into Year Two, the program dives deeper into how security and business overlap. You could work on “Cyber Security Standards and Operations”, “Networks and Infrastructure Security” and a business core like “Organisational Behaviour” or “Business Strategy.” Here you begin to learn not just how to defend systems — but also how businesses stay compliant, manage risk, and operate securely.

Year 3
By Year Three, you shift into more advanced and applied topics. With units such as “Cyber Security Defence and Incident Response”, “Digital Forensics & Ethical Hacking”, plus business studies possibly around “Corporate Governance” or “Business Ethics,” you get hands-on problem-solving experience. You’ll practise responding to simulated cyber incidents and understand how such events impact organisations — building up both technical competence and business context.

Year 4
In the final year, the double-degree brings everything together. You might be involved in a capstone-style project, perhaps combining “Security & Compliance Auditing” with a business project that examines risk management or data-driven business strategy. This year is about applying what you’ve learned: putting together cyber security solutions that make sense in a business context. It’s the bridge between theory and real-world work.

Focus Areas:
Cyber security operations, network & data protection, business management, risk and compliance strategy

Learning Outcomes:
Graduate with both technical skills to design and defend secure systems and a clear business mindset to make strategic decisions, manage compliance and lead security-aware operations.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation):
This double-degree is rooted in the strengths of a recognised cyber security bachelor program at the same university and has been shaped to reflect what employers expect — blending core IT competence with solid business training.

Reputation (Employability & Rankings):
The program draws on the reputation of Griffith University, known for strong IT and business education. Graduates are well-positioned for roles in cyber security, risk management and business operations — fields increasingly highlighted by global rankings and employer demand.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

From day one, this program blends technical cyber-security training with core business and management understanding — which means you don’t just learn how to fight cyber-threats, you also learn how to apply security in real business contexts. You’ll end up graduating not only as someone who understands networks, data, digital forensics, ethical hacking and more — but as someone who can implement secure, compliant, business-aware solutions in a corporate or organisational environment.

Here are some of the real, experiential opportunities this program offers:

  • Use of a dedicated “Cyber Range” — a hands-on cyber security facility where you can practise threat detection, incident response, and vulnerability testing in simulated real-world conditions.

  • Training in digital forensics, ethical hacking, cryptography, network security and incident response — giving you practical skills to assess risks, respond to cyber-attacks, and secure systems.

  • Core IT fundamentals (programming, networks, data management) plus project management skills, equipping you to design, implement, and manage security solutions end-to-end.

  • A business education alongside cyber-security: you’ll learn business fundamentals, giving you the capacity to understand organisational risk, compliance, strategic management and how security fits into business goals.

  • Preparation for a wide range of career paths — from cyber-security analyst/architect, compliance and audit roles, to business analyst or even leading a cyber-security consulting practice — mixing both technical depth and business acumen.

Progression & Future Opportunities

At Bachelor of Cyber Security / Bachelor of Business at Griffith University, you’ll be stepping into a degree that gives a strong springboard for a modern, secure, and business-savvy career. Graduates from this program often move into roles such as cyber security analyst, IT risk manager, security consultant or business analyst — sometimes even blending tech and management to become security-driven business leaders.

Here’s what this means for you:

  • Support for employability: Griffith offers dedicated career services for students and graduates, including career-planning help, job-search support, mentorship through the Industry Mentoring Program, and regular Careers Fairs — all of which help you connect with potential employers.

  • Versatile, in-demand skills: Because you’ll have both cyber security training and core business education, you become attractive to a wide range of sectors — finance, corporate, government, IT firms — especially today, when businesses increasingly need people who understand both security and business operations.

  • Real-world experience built-in: The cyber-security part of the degree includes hands-on learning (like defensive security, ethical hacking, digital forensics, cryptography, incident response) plus a practical project or industry/research placement in the final year — that’s experience you can mention on your résumé from day one.

  • Strong foundational accreditation: The double-degree structure gives a full bachelor’s across both domains, giving long-term academic and professional legitimacy. Graduates leave equipped with solid credentials that are recognized globally.

Further Academic Progression:
After this degree, if you realize you want deeper specialization — you could go on to postgraduate studies at Griffith or elsewhere, for example a master’s in cyber security, information security, business analytics or even management. Because you’ve already covered both business and cyber security, you’d have a flexible base: you could steer into advanced security-focused studies, or choose to deepen your business/management skills. That flexibility makes it easier to adapt your path as your interests and the job market evolve.

So if you like both the technical side of security and the strategy/business side, this program gives you the tools — and keeps many doors open. If you like, I can also walk you through what life might look like right after graduation (entry-level roles, likely salaries, visa/immigration pathways, etc.) — that often helps with making a final decision.
