4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program
The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) at Griffith University is designed for students who want to become highly skilled, patient-focused pharmacists with strong scientific and clinical expertise. It blends biomedical science with real-world pharmacy practice, preparing you for work in hospitals, community pharmacies, and the broader healthcare system.
Curriculum structure
Year 1 – Foundations of pharmaceutical science
In your first year, you build the core scientific base needed for pharmacy practice. You’ll study subjects like Chemistry for Pharmacy, Human Biology, and Introduction to Drug Discovery, which help you understand how medicines interact with the human body. This year focuses on developing strong knowledge in biology, chemistry, and health sciences to prepare you for advanced pharmacy studies.
Year 2 – Core pharmaceutical systems
In Year 2, you begin applying science to medicines and treatment. Key studies include Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, and Microbiology, where you learn how drugs work, how they are formulated, and how infections are treated. You also develop skills in understanding pharmacokinetics, which explains how the body absorbs and processes medication.
Year 3 – Clinical pharmacy and patient care
This year shifts strongly toward clinical practice and real patient care. You’ll study Medicinal Chemistry, Therapeutics, and Clinical Pharmacy Practice, focusing on selecting and managing treatments for different health conditions. Practical learning and placements begin to play a bigger role, helping you build confidence in real healthcare environments.
Year 4 – Advanced practice and professional readiness
In your final year, you move into advanced pharmacy practice and professional training. You’ll complete Advanced Therapeutics, Pharmacy Practice Placement, and a Research Project, allowing you to work closely with patients and healthcare teams. This year is designed to prepare you for full professional registration and independent pharmacy practice.
Focus areas
Pharmacology, clinical pharmacy practice, medicinal chemistry, pharmaceutics, patient care, healthcare systems, and professional pharmacy ethics.
Learning outcomes
Graduates will be able to safely dispense and manage medications, apply clinical reasoning to patient treatment, communicate effectively in healthcare settings, and meet the professional standards required for pharmacy registration in Australia.
Professional alignment (accreditation)
This program is accredited by the Australian Pharmacy Council (APC) and supports eligibility for registration with the Pharmacy Board of Australia, making it a direct pathway into professional pharmacy practice.
Reputation (employability & rankings)
Griffith University is widely recognised for its strength in health and medical sciences and is consistently ranked among leading universities globally. Its pharmacy graduates are well regarded for strong clinical readiness and high employability across Australia’s healthcare sector.
Students in this program don’t just learn theory — they actively train as future pharmacists from early in the degree through hands-on clinical simulation, laboratory work, and real healthcare placements. At Griffith’s Gold Coast campus, learning is closely linked to real patient care environments, so you gradually build confidence in professional pharmacy practice using industry-standard facilities and supervised clinical experiences:
Experiential learning is deeply embedded across the degree so students graduate not only with strong scientific knowledge, but also real confidence in patient care and professional pharmacy practice.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) are prepared to enter a highly respected healthcare profession where they play a key role in patient safety, medication management, and public health. Most graduates move directly into pharmacy practice or further supervised training, with strong demand across hospitals, community pharmacies, and the pharmaceutical industry:
Further Academic Progression:
After completing this degree, graduates can pursue advanced study such as Master of Clinical Pharmacy, Master of Public Health, or specialised postgraduate research (Honours extension or PhD in pharmaceutical sciences). Some graduates also choose specialist clinical training pathways or move into pharmaceutical industry leadership roles over time.
