Curriculum structure
Honours year
During this year, research and independent study are at the core of your learning. You’ll start with PPE Honours Research Methods, which equips you with the tools to design and carry out rigorous research, explore theory and methodology, and prepare for your thesis.
The main focus of the program is your Thesis, a substantial research project of around 20,000 words where you tackle a significant question in politics, philosophy, or economics. This could involve analysing policy impacts, evaluating ethical frameworks, or exploring complex economic theory, depending on your interests.
Alongside your thesis, you’ll choose advanced units from at least two disciplines, such as Comparative Political Institutions, Honours Seminar in Philosophy, Microeconomic Theory, or Public Sector Economics, to give depth and context to your research.
Focus areas
Advanced research methods, political institutions, ethical theory, economic analysis, comparative behaviour, specialised philosophical and economic topics
Learning outcomes
Formulate significant interdisciplinary research questions; investigate them independently using rigorous theory and methodology; and communicate your findings clearly and persuasively through a substantial thesis.
Professional alignment (accreditation)
While this Honours program does not provide formal professional accreditation like law or engineering, it’s highly respected for preparing graduates for advanced research roles, policy analysis, public affairs, and postgraduate study. Employers in academia, government, research institutions, and think tanks value the skills and expertise this program develops.
