Program Overview

Society and Culture is the study of the ways we represent ourselvesto one another, which we do through the food we eat, the filmswe produce and watch, the books we write and read, political documents, TV, media, art, music, dance, language, urbanenvironments and architecture. This major focuses on exploringpolitical, ethical and social relations and their consequences ineveryday cultural practice. It provides a broad and accessibletheoretical base from which to engage with, and apply, historicaland contemporary debates.You will build a strong suite of research and evaluation skills toenable you to consider ethical, logistical, social and environmentalissues including cultural practices, visual and textual analysisand construction, nationhood, identity, embodied practice andgender relations. This major encourages development of effectivecommunication, ethical and analytical skills, and the ongoingexamination of the world around us.
