Honours Bachelor of Arts Environmental Ethics

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Toronto St George

Program Overview

Environmental ethics is the part of environmental philosophy which considers extending the traditional boundaries of ethics from solely including humans to including the non-human world. Environmental Ethics is that sub-field of philosophy which seeks to articulate reasons why non-human nature usually writ large to include collective entities like species and ecosystems has value that cannot be reduced solely to economic value. While traditional ethics had an exclusive focus on human beings, environmental ethics is based on concern for nature. Environmental ethics often contains criticisms of man's abusive or exploitative practices with regard to nature.
