The Health Studies Program explores how health is shaped by the circumstances in which people are born, grow up, live, work, and age, and how these in turn connect to a wider set of environmental, social, cultural, economic, and political forces. Health Studies students investigate the impact of systems put in place to deal with illness, and examine how understandings of health are shaped by the cultures we live in and by competing claims about health and disease. Understanding health requires knowledge from a range of disciplines and sectors: Health Studies brings insights from across the social sciences, sciences and humanities to its courses. Students from a variety of backgrounds come together in a stimulating environment that challenges them to think about health in new ways.
