The study of religion is distinguished by the uniqueness of its subject matter and the diversity of its methods. It addresses this subject matter with the full range of investigative tools available by the various disciplines, especially modern historical and social-scientific human studies. Islamic studies refers to the study of Islam. Islamic studies can be seen under at least two perspectives: From a secular perspective, Islamic studies is a field of academic research whose subject is Islam as religion and civilization.
