Biophysics is an interdisciplinebetween biology and physics. The Department of Biophysics at the School of Basic Medical Sciences, Peking University was founded in 1956; the first batch of students of biophysics for master s degree were enrolled in 1978, while in 1984the department was authorized to start the first doctoral program for biophysics in China.In 1988, the department was recognized as the only key discipline leaderfor biophysics in colleges and universities in China, and it was one of the four key discipline leadersin the School of Basic Medical Sciences.
