The Department of Psychology stems from the department established in 1920 at Nanjing Higher Normal School (which was changed into National Southeast University in 1921 and National Central University in 1927). Since Nanjing University re-established its Department of Sociology in 1988, especially since 2001, reconstruction of departments and disciplines such as psychology, anthropology and social work has been the university s academic mission.
