Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)

The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) at European University Cyprus is a five-year, 300 ECTS program designed to prepare students for a successful career as a modern dental practitioner through an integrated curriculum combining biomedical sciences, pre-clinical simulation, and extensive clinical training. Students learn in state-of-the-art anatomy laboratories, simulation clinics, and the University's Dental Clinic, gaining the scientific knowledge, technical expertise, and patient-centered skills required for professional dental practice.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1

The first year establishes a strong scientific foundation by introducing students to the structure and function of the human body through Anatomy I & II, Physiology I & II, and Histology/Embryology I & II. Students also study Principles of Cell Biology and Genetics, Medical Biochemistry, Dental Morphology, Applied Dental Biochemistry, Dental Ethics, and Biomaterials and Technology in Dentistry, developing the essential knowledge required for future clinical learning.

Year 2

Students transition from biomedical sciences into oral health and disease while developing their first clinical competencies. Core modules include Microbiology, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Principles of Surgery, Operative Dentistry I, Endodontics I, Fixed Prosthodontics I, Removable Prosthodontics I, Periodontology I, and Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and Imaging I, alongside Community and Preventive Dentistry.

Year 3

The third year emphasizes advanced restorative dentistry and expands students' clinical exposure. Students undertake courses such as Operative Dentistry II & III, Endodontics II & III, Fixed Prosthodontics II & III, Digital Dentistry and Digital Planning, Oral Surgery I & II, Pediatric Dentistry I, and Dental Anesthesiology, while strengthening communication skills and infection control practices for patient care.

Year 4

Clinical practice becomes the central focus as students manage increasingly complex patient cases under faculty supervision. Coursework includes Pediatric Dentistry II, Orthodontics, Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery, Periodontology, Prosthodontics, and Integrated Comprehensive Patient Care, allowing students to combine diagnosis, treatment planning, and multidisciplinary dental care.

Year 5

The final year provides comprehensive supervised clinical experience that prepares students for independent professional practice. Students complete advanced clinical rotations across restorative dentistry, oral surgery, prosthodontics, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, periodontology, and comprehensive patient management while refining clinical judgment, professionalism, and evidence-based decision-making expected of a graduating dentist.
