Program Overview

The bachelor's study program covers a whole range of areas from literature and book culture to the history of film, comics, popular music and new media to the history of modern society. The basis is a broad concept of culture as a sphere of artificially created meanings, including popular and mass culture, and an analysis of language as a tool for creating meaning and as a carrier of information. The teaching focuses on the history of modern civilization, i.e. the history of inventions and tools, the history of travel, and ways of spending free time. You probably already know from high school when the Golden Bull of Sicily was published; here you will also find out when sausage or tea in a bag was created.
