Bachelor’s in Economic Data Science

NA On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Economics Prague

Program Overview

The Economic Data Science programme is a three-year full-time Bachelor's degree taught entirely in English at the Faculty of Informatics and Statistics (FIS). This program equips you with the skills to not only interpret data but also delve deeper using advanced statistical and econometric techniques, preparing you for important and well-paid positions in companies or the public sector where data-driven decisions shape strategy.

Curriculum Structure

First Year

Your foundation begins with essential mathematical and programming skills that underpin all data science work. You'll start with Mathematics for Economists and R and SQL for Data Analysis, giving you hands-on experience with the programming languages industry demands. Alongside this, you'll explore Principles of Economics: Theory and Data I to understand the economic context behind the numbers you'll analyze, plus Philosophy of Science to develop the critical thinking skills that distinguish great analysts from those who simply crunch numbers.

Second Year

In your second year, you move into more sophisticated analytical territory. You'll take Probability and Mathematical Statistics I, Real Data Analysis, and Regression Modelling — courses that teach you to extract meaningful insights from complex datasets. This is where theory meets practice: you'll learn to build models that predict economic trends and solve real business problems, supported by practical skills in Data Analysis in Python and Business Intelligence Fundamentals.

Third Year

Your final year brings specialization and depth. You'll engage with advanced topics like Machine Learning 1 and 2, Quantitative Methods in Economics, and Development Economics, allowing you to explore areas that genuinely interest you. You'll also complete your Bachelor's Thesis, where you apply everything you've learned to a real research question, culminating in your final state exams.

Focus Areas

Data Science, Statistics, Econometrics, Data Analysis, and Critical Thinking — these five pillars ensure you graduate as a well-rounded analyst capable of handling whatever data challenges come your way.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates are specially qualified for positions where data analysis and economic indicator interpretation are required and can work with various data sources across sectors. You'll develop the ability to evaluate data with precision and analyze it deeply, equipping you to make decisions at the highest level in corporate or public sector roles.

Professional Alignment

Upon graduation, you'll be prepared for roles as an Economic Data Scientist, Business Analyst, Economic Data Manager, or Economic Data Consultant. The programme also opens pathways to graduate study — FIS offers two Master's programmes where Economic Data Science graduates can continue: Economic Data Analysis or Information Systems Management.
