Bachelor's Programme in Mechanical Engineering (double degree)

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

LUT University

Program Overview

The Bachelor's Programme in Mechanical Engineering (double degree) at LUT University is a three-year journey that awards you two Bachelor of Science in Technology (B.Sc. Tech.) degrees—one from LUT and one from our partner, Hebei University of Technology (HEBUT) in China—all completed right here in Lappeenranta, Finland. It's perfect for motivated students passionate about designing innovative machines, sustainable energy solutions, and smart systems, blending solid engineering foundations with hands-on projects that prepare you for a global career.

Curriculum Structure
Year 1

You'll kick off with a strong base in core engineering principles through General Studies, diving into mathematics, physics, and engineering design to build your problem-solving skills from day one. Classes like mechanics and programming get you comfortable with real-world tools, while control systems introduces how machines think and respond, setting you up for exciting hands-on experiments early on.

Year 2
Building momentum, you'll tackle Intermediate Specialisation Studies in areas like mechatronics and robotics, learning to integrate electronics with mechanical systems for cutting-edge automation. Courses such as production engineering, FE analysis, and machine design teach you to simulate, prototype, and optimize parts, often with team projects that mimic industry challenges.

Year 3
Your final year ramps up with advanced integration through Intermediate Specialisation Studies continued, plus Minor Studies like energy economics and sustainability science, where you'll explore green tech and even touch on Chinese business, culture, and technology for that global edge. Key courses including manufacturing principles and specializations in electrical engineering (like lab courses and embedded systems) or energy technology (machines and processes) culminate in internships in Finland or abroad, polishing your skills for the workforce.

Focus Areas
Sharpen your expertise in mechatronics, robotics, production engineering, machine design, energy technology, and sustainable manufacturing, with options to specialize in electrical or energy paths complete with practical internships.

Learning Outcomes
Graduates emerge ready to design, analyze, and innovate mechanical systems; apply math, physics, and programming to real problems; and thrive in international teams, holding two recognized degrees that boost your versatility in engineering roles.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation)
This program carries the prestigious EUR-ACE label and ASIIN accreditation, ensuring your degree meets top European standards for quality engineering education and professional recognition worldwide.

Reputation (Employability Rankings)
LUT University ranks high for employability—top 3% globally in the QS Graduate Employability Ranking 2022—and our engineering grads boast a 99% employment rate within two years, thanks to strong industry ties and practical training.
