Program Overview

Art history explores the emergence, peculiarity, function and impact of works of art as well as of design, photography and audiovisual media in European culture and history since late antiquity. It deals with the material and idealistic prerequisites of these works of art, artistic materials and techniques, the history of artist education, art education as well as art theory and aesthetics. It also looks at the history of art history, methods and institutions. The bachelor's program provides basic knowledge in the field of history and theory of fine arts as well as methodological competence in dealing with the different themes, eras and genres of art and their specific research problems.
