Program Overview

The Sustainable Civil Engineering (B.Eng.) at Ingolstadt Technical University (THI) is designed for students who want to create the infrastructure of the future through sustainable, innovative, and environmentally responsible engineering solutions. The programme combines core civil engineering principles with areas such as sustainable construction, digital technologies, and modern infrastructure development, preparing students to address real-world challenges in the construction industry.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1

In the first year, students build a strong foundation in engineering fundamentals through subjects such as Mathematics 1 & 2, Mechanics 1 & 2, Construction Chemistry and Materials, and Building Construction 1. They also gain their first understanding of sustainable engineering through modules like Sustainable Construction and Digital Construction, while developing technical communication skills through language and professional preparation courses.

Year 2

The second year focuses on developing deeper technical knowledge with modules such as Structural Analysis, Fluid Mechanics, Geotechnics, Steel Construction, and Construction Management. Students also explore Digital Modelling, Sustainable Construction Materials, and practical project-based learning, helping them understand how engineering concepts are applied in real construction projects.

Year 3

In the third year, students advance their expertise through specialised areas including Timber Construction, Transportation, Hydraulic Engineering, Solid Construction, and Sustainable Construction Management. The programme also includes an 18-week Construction Internship, allowing students to gain valuable industry experience and apply their knowledge in professional environments.

Year 4

The final year allows students to strengthen their expertise through Focus Topics, Elective Modules, Advanced Project Work, and Research Workshops. Students complete their studies with a Bachelor’s Thesis, Bachelor Colloquium, and modules such as Law and Real Estate Life-Cycle Management, preparing them for successful careers in sustainable infrastructure.

Focus Areas

Sustainable construction, structural engineering, construction materials, digital construction, digital modelling, construction management, transportation engineering, hydraulic engineering, geotechnics, timber construction, sustainable infrastructure development, certification systems, and life-cycle management.
