Bachelor students of the University of Hamburg have the opportunity to choose Catalan as a minor subject. The study lasts six semesters and can be taken up without previous language knowledge. In addition to the ability to speak and write in Catalan, the focus is on providing systematic specialist knowledge of Catalan linguistics. The aim of the minor subject is to convey familiarity with the characteristics of Catalan. In addition, the ability to describe linguistic phenomena in the context of hypothetical-deductive theories and to argue for or against a linguistic position on the basis of careful data analysis and the knowledge of relevant research literature.
