What a treasure lies at our feet, And yet it is so rarely perceived consciously. There are countless tiny creatures romping about directly under the soles of our shoes - significantly more than anywhere on earth. The floors are not just surfaces on which we stand. They are our livelihood, but they have to withstand more and more: the creation of monocultures, building streets and houses or exposure to too many pollutants damage the soil. The result: The diversity within and between animal and plant species, as well as that of ecosystems and landscape regions, threatens to be lost.
