Cognitive Science - Bachelor of Science

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Osnabrueck University

Program Overview

The aim of cognitive science is to research cognitive abilities such as perception, thinking, planning, learning, speaking and acting. The still young discipline of cognitive science is primarily concerned with the scientific study of the brain and mind, both experimentally and theoretically. Furthermore, it is about the explanation of human language and non-verbal behavior, the formation of artificial intelligent systems and the investigation of perception and motor skills. Methodologically, a field of tension is thus defined that ranges from mathematical methods to psychological and neuroscientific experiments to computer models of mental processes and philosophical reflection. The range of courses in Cognitive Science, which is unique in Germany in this interdisciplinary breadth, bundles practically all relevant disciplines in Bachelor's/Master's/PhD courses that build on one another. In the bachelor's program, students learn elementary basic knowledge in the disciplines of mathematics, computer science, computer linguistics, neurobiology, neuroinformatics, philosophy of mind, cognitive psychology and artificial intelligence in compulsory courses. By attending compulsory elective courses in the disciplines mentioned, students can further specialize in order to take module examinations in five of the eight disciplines.
