BA in Sign language

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Hamburg

Program Overview

The sign languages of the deaf are understood as minority languages. From this perspective, sociolinguistic problems arise, such as the consequences of non-recognition of linguistic human rights or the question of sign language in terms of sign language. The latter contradicts the Western understanding of language and theoretically challenges different disciplines. The bachelor's program Sign Languages provides specialized knowledge of sign languages and deaf communities. The students should acquire competence in German Sign Language (DGS) and the scientific methods to critically reflect on this knowledge. Central topics of the subject are the sign languages deaf, especially the DGS, as well as the theoretical discussion with them.
