The American College of Greece

Program Overview

The BS (Hons) in Psychology at The American College of Greece offers a rigorous, research-driven education that dives into the science of behavior and mental processes, building strong analytical skills for real-world problem-solving. It's perfect for curious students passionate about understanding people—whether you're drawn to research, counseling, or helping those with special needs—and it sets you up beautifully for graduate studies or diverse careers.

Curriculum Structure
Year 1 lays a solid foundation with two modules in general psychology that introduce core concepts of human and animal behavior, alongside exploring the evolution of psychology as a discipline. You'll also tackle five modules in essential areas like laboratory work and statistics, giving you hands-on skills right from the start to think critically about evidence and research basics.

Year 2 builds on that base by consolidating core domains such as developmental psychology, biopsychology, research methods, and psychometrics, with three research-focused modules featuring compulsory lab sessions for practical depth. You'll explore personality theories and have the option for a developmental psychology module on child/adolescent growth or adult development and aging, sharpening your ability to apply theory to everyday human challenges.

Year 3 and Senior Level dive into advanced topics with compulsory courses in psychopathology and cognitive sciences, plus electives in pure and applied psychology to match your interests. You'll cap it off with original research through the Final Year Project, including modules like PS 4751 Adult Psychopathology, PS 4839 Advanced Topics in Cognitive Psychology, and PS 4861 Final Year Project I, preparing you to design studies and tackle complex issues with confidence.

Focus areas: Core domains like developmental psychology, biopsychology, personality theories, psychopathology, cognitive sciences, research methods, psychometrics, and applied electives in organizational/social psychology, learning differences, and adult education.

Learning outcomes: Gain in-depth knowledge of psychological influences, critical understanding of cognitive psychology and psychopathology, advanced research design skills, and the ability to apply theory to individual, group, and social issues for ethical, evidence-based practice.

Professional alignment (accreditation): The American College of Greece is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education, ensuring your degree meets high U.S. standards; it aligns with pathways to professional roles and our own master's programs like MS in Counseling Psychology & Psychotherapy.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At The American College of Greece, our BS (Hons) in Psychology dives deep into hands-on learning right from the start, building real-world skills through lab work, research projects, and data analysis that you'll use throughout your career. You'll kick off with foundational laboratory experiments and statistics, then move into advanced courses like research methods, psychometrics, and experimental cognitive psychology, where you design, run, and analyze your own studies on topics from human behavior to cognitive processes. By senior year, you'll lead an original empirical research project, sharpening your ability to collect evidence, interpret results, and communicate findings—just like a professional psychologist. This practical focus, backed by top-notch facilities on our Aghia Paraskevi campus, sets you up perfectly for grad school or jobs in research, counseling, or beyond.

Here's how our experiential learning comes alive for Psychology majors, with specific tools and opportunities tailored to the program:

- Dedicated research labs: Use the Cognitive/Social Psychology labs (two facilities with 34 stations total) for cognitive, social, psycho-physiological studies, and surveys—design and run your own experiments or join faculty projects.
- Laboratory work and stats training: Early courses emphasize hands-on lab sessions to master scientific methods, experimental design, data collection, analysis, and report writing.
- Original empirical projects: Conduct independent senior-level research, applying skills from biopsychology, developmental psychology, and psychometrics.
- Experimental design courses: In classes like PS 3734 Experimental Cognitive Psychology, practice principles of experimental investigations, analysis, and scientific reporting.
- Non-experimental research methods: Courses like PS 3518 teach design, execution, analysis, and communication of surveys and observational studies.

These experiences make our program stand out, giving you the edge to apply now—spots fill fast!
