Program Overview

The BA (Hons) in Business Studies at DBS provides students with a broad and practical understanding of modern business practices. This program is designed to build core competencies across key disciplines such as management, marketing, finance, economics, and human resource management. With flexibility built into the curriculum, students can pursue general business studies or tailor their learning with specialist electives in their final years.

  • Wide-ranging foundation in business, marketing, HR, economics, finance, and law
  • Teaching and Assessment: Primarily taught through lectures and tutorials, with students responsible for large amounts of study outside of planned class contact hours. Essays and reports, individual and group assignments, and formal tests are all examples of assessment methods. The bulk of disciplines are assessed via a combination of coursework and exams.
  • Recognised QQI-accredited Level 8 degree

Course Overview:

  • Year 1: Maths and Stats for Business, Business Context and Organisation, IT Essentials, Marketing Essentials
  • Year 2: Management, Financial Management, Business Information Systems, along with electives
  • Year 3: Strategic Management, Global Business, Human Resource Management, Capstone Project, along with electives

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

  • Capstone research project/dissertation in final year
  • Real-world scenarios, case study analysis, and group projects throughout the program
  • Electives in digital business and entrepreneurship for practical, career-focused learning
  • Guest speakers and industry-led workshops through DBS’s professional network
