Bachelor of Science (Honours) Computer Science (Cloud & Networks)

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

South East Technological University

Program Overview

The BSc (Hons) in Computer Science (Cloud & Networks) at South East Technological University is a four-year honours degree designed for students who want to understand how modern cloud platforms and networked systems power today’s digital world. The program suits learners who enjoy problem-solving, technology, and hands-on work, and who want practical skills that lead directly to in-demand computing careers.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1 – Building strong foundations
In the first year, students develop core computing skills through modules such as Programming Fundamentals 1 and 2, Web App Development, and Computer Systems 1 and 2, which explain how software and hardware work together. Introduction to Cloud Computing gives an early insight into cloud environments, while mathematics and industry-focused modules help students build confidence and technical thinking.

Year 2 – Networks, systems, and security basics
Second year focuses on how data, systems, and networks operate at scale. Students study Computer Networks and Network Infrastructure to understand connectivity and communication, alongside Operating Systems to explore how modern systems manage resources. Data Structures & Algorithms, Relational Databases, Applied Cryptology, and Statistics & Probability strengthen analytical, security, and problem-solving skills essential for advanced computing roles.

Year 3 – Practical skills and industry exposure
In third year, students deepen their technical expertise through Web App Development 2 and Developer Operations, learning modern development workflows and deployment practices. Optional pathways such as Industrial Placement or Professional Certification allow students to gain real-world industry experience or recognised credentials, enhancing career readiness before final year.

Year 4 – Specialisation and final project
The final year allows students to specialise in advanced areas including Cloud Computing 1, Network & Systems Security, Distributed Systems, and Data Mining. A two-part final year Project enables students to apply their knowledge to a substantial real-world problem, showcasing their technical ability and preparing them for professional roles or postgraduate study.

Focus Areas
