LLB Law and German

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Trinity College Dublin TCD

Program Overview

The LLB Law and German at Trinity College Dublin is ideal if you’re interested in law but also want strong international and language skills. You’ll study core Irish and European law alongside German language and culture, including a year in Germany that gives you real fluency and global legal perspective.

Curriculum structure

Years 1 & 2 – Building strong foundations
In your first two years, you develop a solid legal base through subjects such as Constitutional Law, Contract Law, Criminal Law, Torts, Equity, and EU Law, while steadily advancing your German language skills. These years focus on learning how to think like a lawyer while becoming confident using German in academic and professional contexts.

Year 3 – Study abroad in Germany
Your third year is spent at a partner university in Germany, where you study through the language and experience a civil law system first-hand. This immersion strengthens fluency, cultural understanding, and comparative legal thinking—key strengths of this degree.

Year 4 – Advanced law and specialisation
In your final year back at Trinity, you choose from advanced law options such as European Human Rights, Administrative Law, Media Law, or Intellectual Property. You’ll bring together your legal training and language skills, preparing for professional practice or postgraduate study.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

Studying Law and German at Trinity is designed to help you practice what you’re learning, not just study it in theory. From interactive seminars to a full year living and studying in Germany, the programme steadily builds your confidence in legal thinking, communication, and working across cultures. You’ll graduate having already applied your skills in real academic and professional settings, supported by Trinity’s strong research environment and practical learning opportunities:

  • Small, discussion-led seminars that strengthen legal reasoning, debate skills, and bilingual communication

  • An optional Clinical Legal Education module in final year, offering hands-on exposure to legal practice, professional ethics, and workplace skills

  • Extensive access to Trinity’s law and language libraries, supporting deep legal research and independent study

  • Opportunities to write, research, and collaborate through student-led law publications and societies, mirroring professional legal work
