Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At University College Dublin, the BCL (Hons) Law with Philosophy is designed to help you think like a lawyer while gaining hands-on experience in real legal settings. From practising arguments in a courtroom-style space to working on real-world legal problems and engaging with one of Europe’s most active student law communities, you’ll develop confidence, practical skills, and professional awareness alongside your academic studies.

This comes together through a mix of purpose-built facilities, structured practice, and student-led opportunities:

  • Moot Court & Advocacy Training: You’ll practise legal argument, public speaking, and courtroom procedure in a dedicated Moot Court environment that closely reflects real trial settings.

  • Clinical Legal Education Centre: The Arthur Cox Clinical Legal Education Centre supports hands-on learning through negotiation, dispute resolution, and client-focused legal exercises that bridge theory and practice.

  • Law Society Activities: As part of UCD’s highly active Law Society, you can take part in mock trials, debating sessions, mooting competitions, and talks by leading legal professionals.

  • Legal Research & Writing: Students have the opportunity to develop advanced research and writing skills through involvement with student-led legal publications such as the UCD Law Review.

  • Library & Digital Resources: You’ll have access to extensive law and philosophy collections, along with digital legal databases that support case analysis, research projects, and essay work throughout the degree.

  • Internship Opportunities: In later years, eligible students can apply for a structured internship module, allowing them to gain workplace experience in legal practices, NGOs, or corporate legal teams.

Together, these experiences ensure you graduate not only with strong academic knowledge, but also with the practical confidence and professional readiness that employers value.

  • Career support that actually works: From your first year, UCD’s Careers Network supports you with CV reviews, interview preparation, employer presentations, careers fairs, and one-to-one guidance. Law students also benefit from school-level career events that connect them directly with legal professionals and recruiters.
