Increasingly, many aspects of our economy and of our lifestyles depend on our ability to manage our energy needs and our environment appropriately. Many challenges exist including energy production, management and distribution, sustainability, environmental monitoring and measurement and the technologies associated with all these sectors. Physics plays a crucial role in all of these areas. Physicists develop new innovative technologies for these and areas such as renewable energy, atmospheric monitoring, the green economy and many more.
