Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

What I really like about this programme is how quickly you move from learning to actually doing. From the very beginning, you’re working on real design projects, experimenting in labs, and using professional tools—so it never feels like you’re just sitting in a classroom. The whole experience is built around helping you think like a designer and create like one, with Milan itself becoming part of your learning environment.

And honestly, this is where Domus Academy stands out—you’re constantly building, testing, and refining ideas in a studio-style setting, supported by industry experts and strong campus facilities. By the time you reach your final year, you’re not just graduating with a degree, but with a portfolio that actually reflects real work and real thinking:

  • Industry-led projects: You’ll work on real briefs often connected to companies and guided by professionals, so your work reflects what the industry actually expects
  • Hands-on design labs: Access to tools like 3D printers, fabrication equipment, and prototyping spaces where your ideas turn into physical outcomes
  • Studio-based learning: A lot of your time is spent in workshops, design studios, and collaborative spaces rather than traditional lectures
  • Internship / real-world exposure: You get the chance to gain experience through internships or project-based learning before graduating
  • Digital tools & workstations: Use modern computer labs with industry-standard design software to develop and present your work
  • Final project & portfolio: Your thesis and final project are designed to showcase your strengths and help you step confidently into the industry
  • Design-focused library: Access to curated resources in design, architecture, and creative industries to support your projects
  • Collaborative environment: Work with students across different design disciplines, which really helps you think beyond just one area
  • Milan as your classroom: Being in one of the world’s design capitals means constant exposure to exhibitions, studios, and global design events

Students typically move into roles like Interior Designer, Product Designer, UX Designer, or Art Director, working across creative studios, brands, and digital platforms. The programme is designed in a way that makes that transition feel natural, not overwhelming.

And this is where Domus Academy really supports you beyond the classroom:

  • Career Service Support: You’ll get structured help with your CV, portfolio, and interviews through their Career Service and “Career Gym” sessions
  • Career Days & Recruiter Access: Opportunities to connect directly with companies and recruiters through dedicated hiring events
  • Strong Graduate Outcomes: A large majority of students secure roles within a year, often much sooner thanks to their practical experience
  • Industry Collaborations: You’ll work with well-known brands like Google, Danone, AKQA, and Technogym during your studies
  • Internship Experience: Real-world exposure through internships or company projects before you graduate
  • Global Opportunities: Graduates go on to work in international design studios, global companies, or even start their own creative ventures
  • Long-term Value: Strong satisfaction levels and career growth potential due to the hands-on, industry-focused training

Further Academic Progression:

If you decide to specialise further, this degree gives you a strong pathway into Master’s programmes such as Design Innovation, UX Design, Service Design, or Design Futures—either at Domus Academy or other top universities globally. It also keeps the door open for advanced study and research if you want to move into leadership, strategy, or academic roles later on.
