The TU Delft Bachelor of Science Aerospace Engineering program prepares you to design, analyze, and optimize next-generation aircraft, spacecraft, and wind power systems, with a focus on sustainability and innovation. The program is for students with an interest in mathematics and physics as well as for tackling tough engineering challenges in an international environment.
Curriculum structure:
Year 1: You will gain a foundation in physics and mathematics with courses like Calculus I-A/B, Linear Algebra, and Physics, and acquire skills through practice with Programming & Scientific Computing in Python for AE1 and Engineering Drawing. Statics and Dynamics are taught in the year to build a strong base in the concepts of engineering.
Year 2: You will specialize in knowledge in Aerodynamics I & II, Low-speed Wind Tunnel Test, and Structural and Vibrational Analysis & Design. Courses such as Artificial Intelligence for Aerospace Engineering, Flight & Orbital Mechanics, and Propulsion & Power integrate advanced analytical and design capabilities.
Year 3: You’ll participate in a major group project, Design Synthesis, simulating real-world aerospace engineering. The year includes Aerospace Flight Dynamics & Simulation, Simulation, Verification & Validation, and Aerospace Systems Engineering, Design & Production, with opportunities for electives and specialization.
Focus areas: Aerodynamics, Flight Dynamics, Structures & Materials, Propulsion, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Design, Space Systems, Wind Energy, Sustainability, Simulation.
Learning outcomes: Design and analyze planes and spacecraft, employ high-level physics and math, utilize computer engineering, operate in multidisciplinary teams, tackle aerospace engineering sustainability.
Professional alignment (accreditation): Accredited by the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NA).
Reputation (employability rankings): TU Delft is top 10 internationally for engineering and technology (QS World University Rankings 2024).
TU Delft's BSc Aerospace Engineering puts you directly in touch with hands-on learning with top-class teaching and research facilities. You'll work in the ISO 8 cleanroom, build and test satellites, and conduct real-time data communication with a multi-band satellite ground station. The Aircraft Hall and flying classroom Cessna Citation II of the faculty provide you with hands-on experience with full-scale aircraft and flight testing. You'll also employ the Cyber Zoo for robotics and drone testing, as well as subsonic, supersonic, and hypersonic wind tunnel aerodynamic testing. You'll integrate this equipment into coursework, group projects, and research, which enables you to build hands-on expertise that's valued by industry:
Test and design nanosatellites: In the ISO 8 cleanroom with vacuum ovens and Helmholtz cages for attitude control testing.
Mechanical, electrical, and 3D printing: Activities in the adjacent workshop, facilitating satellite and aerospace hardware development.
Satellite communication: Conduct real satellites and download mission data through the multi-band satellite ground station, research satellite communication and orbit determination.
Flight simulation and in-flight experiments: Using the Cessna Citation II PH-LAB and in the Aircraft Hall.
Design projects and case studies: Group design projects and an 80-hour case project during the Study Tour, with industrial visits to leading aerospace companies and direct industry experience.
Wind tunnel testing: Test and analyze aerodynamics phenomena in wind tunnels and in the Propulsion Lab.
Cyber Zoo robotics: Study robotics and autonomous systems in the Cyber Zoo, a dedicated drone and robotics test lab.
Planetary simulation: Utilize the Delft Planetary Laboratories for planetary environment simulation and testing of space instrumentation.
