BIOINFORMATICSis a dynamically developing branch of science, it combines the latest approaches in the field of biochemistry, biotechnology and molecular biology with advanced methods and IT tools. Its importance cannot be overestimated in the light of the rapidly growing resources of digital data of a biological nature, especially molecular data obtained from the sequencing of human, animal, plant and microbial genomes. The development of bioinformatics requires the education of new specialists who understand the problems arising in the field of molecular biology and are able to apply IT methods and create IT tools to solve these problems. The development of a knowledge-based society and economy in Poland also requires specialists competent in the field of biotechnology and bioinformatics
