Bachelors in Philosophy, Politics and Economics

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Forward College

Program Overview

The Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) programme is an interdisciplinary degree designed for intellectually curious students who want to understand how the world actually works—combining rigorous philosophical inquiry with political analysis and economic reasoning. This programme equips you with the tools to make sense of contemporary global challenges, from governance and inequality to technology and justice, preparing you to become a thought leader and decision-maker in an increasingly complex world.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1: Foundations

Your first year establishes core knowledge across all three disciplines while developing practical skills for the modern world. You'll explore fundamental questions about the good life, justice, and fairness alongside economic concepts of power, incentives, and inequality, with courses in Political Philosophy and International Relations providing frameworks for understanding governance and global dynamics. You'll select 10 courses from a curated list, take a language course each term (Portuguese or French depending on your track), and in term 3, you'll engage in an impact project with your peers and complete a professional certification.

Year 2: Integration & Analysis

Building on your foundation, year 2 deepens your understanding of how political movements and economic shifts interconnect locally and globally. You'll develop the ability to evaluate policy decisions using robust economic and political frameworks while integrating insights from related fields, preparing you to tackle real-world interdisciplinary challenges. This year emphasizes applying theory to practice through problem-solving approaches and practical exercises.

Year 3: Application & Strategy

Your final year focuses on applying your interdisciplinary knowledge to real-world challenges with advanced courses tackling inequality, technology ethics, international policymaking, and questions of power and legitimacy in modern society. You'll synthesize philosophical insight, political analysis, and economic reasoning through your dissertation research and professional internship, graduating ready to lead meaningful change. You'll select 8 courses, undertake a final dissertation or capstone project, and complete a professional internship in term 3.

Focus Areas

Understanding global economic trends and their political implications; evaluating policy through integrated frameworks; identifying links between political movements and economic shifts; developing strategic, interdisciplinary solutions to contemporary economic and political challenges.

Experiential Learning (Research, Projects, Internships etc.)

At Forward College's Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE) programme, you'll dive into practical skills right from year one, blending core theories in philosophy, politics, and economics with hands-on projects that prepare you for the real world—like digital entrepreneurship, social impact initiatives, and personal development to build "future of work" skills. Small classes of about 15 students mean intensive, collaborative learning through in-person seminars focused on debates, role plays, and collective problem-solving, all guided by full-time faculty who provide weekly 1:1 tutoring and regular feedback. In term 3 of year 1, you'll team up for a dedicated impact project, and by year 3, you'll tackle a final capstone project or dissertation alongside an internship for real-world application.

Here's how our experiential learning comes to life in the PPE programme:

- Team-based impact projects: In year 1 term 3, collaborate in teams on practical projects applying PPE concepts to social impact and digital entrepreneurship, building skills in AI technology, collaborative problem-solving, and contemporary tools.
- Year 3 internships: Gain professional experience through a dedicated internship in term 3, putting your knowledge of governance, global dynamics, incentives, and inequality into action.
- Collaborative seminars and role plays: Engage in small-group sessions emphasizing debate, application, and role plays to sharpen strategic problem-solving, policy analysis, and communication of complex ideas.
- Student clubs and group learning spaces: Propose and lead clubs with a budget for shared interests, using dedicated private spaces at campuses (like Lisbon's flexible furniture areas for group work and conferences) to foster creativity and networking.
- Campus facilities for hands-on growth: Access study rooms, libraries, language labs, gyms, and green spaces in Paris; co-living with professional networking ecosystems like The Social Hub and CIC in Berlin; and student residences with group study areas in Lisbon—all tailored to support PPE's interdisciplinary projects across three countries.
