Program Overview

The department aims to instill in its students an appreciation of Hispanic linguistics and literature. The curriculum consists of courses on conversation and grammar for the lower-level undergraduates and more comprehensive and wide-ranging courses on the literature of Spanish-speaking countries and comparative studies on Spanish and other Romance languages for upper-level undergraduates. The curriculum is intended to aid the student in understanding the history, politics, religion and culture of Spain as well as the Spanish-speaking countries of Central and South America.
