Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy

4 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

University of Barcelona

Program Overview

If you want to become a physiotherapist and stand out doing it, this is genuinely one of the most exciting ways to do that in Spain. It's the only physiotherapy degree in Catalonia taught entirely in English, blending hands-on clinical training with cutting-edge digital health technology like mobile apps and interactive tools for patient care. It's built for students who are hands-on, curious about both the human body and technology, and want to graduate ready to work anywhere in the world, not just locally.

Curriculum Structure

Year 1: You'll build your scientific foundation from day one with core modules like Anatomy I and II, Physiology I and II, and Biology, while also getting your first real taste of the profession through Fundamentals of Physiotherapy and Assessment and Diagnosis in Physiotherapy. By the second semester you're already learning hands-on technique in Orthopedic Manual Therapy I and starting your first clinical exposure in Clinical Integration I.

Year 2: This is where things get more clinical and more specialized. You'll dive into Biomechanics and Applied Physics, Pathological Bases I and II, and Research Methodology, building the scientific reasoning skills every good physiotherapist needs. At the same time, you'll expand your hands-on toolkit with Orthopedic Manual Therapy II and III, Neuromusculoskeletal Physiotherapy, and Electrophysical Agents in Physiotherapy, so you're treating real conditions with real techniques.

Year 3 & 4: Year 3 is where you specialize by patient population, working through modules like Pathology in Neurology, Cardiorespiratory Pathology, Physiotherapy in Geriatrics, and Urogynecological Physiotherapy, all while completing your first major internship, Practicum I. Year 4 is your professional launchpad. You'll complete an extensive second internship (Practicum II), your Final Degree Project, and choose from specialized optional modules like Sports Physiotherapy, Digital Health Applied to Physiotherapy, or Programming Physiotherapy Apps for Mobile Devices, so you leave with a genuine niche.

Focus Areas

Musculoskeletal and orthopedic manual therapy, neurological and cardiorespiratory physiotherapy, pediatric and geriatric physiotherapy, sports physiotherapy, and the integration of digital health technology and mobile app development into physiotherapy practice.

Learning Outcomes

Graduates can assess, diagnose, and design physiotherapy treatments across medical and surgical specialties; carry out prevention and health-promotion activities; and design and develop interactive digital tools and mobile applications to support diagnosis, treatment, and patient adherence.

Professional Alignment (Accreditation)

The degree is jointly issued by the University of Girona and the University of Barcelona as an official Spanish university qualification within the Health Sciences branch of knowledge, following the standard EHEA (European Higher Education Area) bachelor's degree framework.

Reputation (Employability)

Graduates go on to work across a genuinely wide range of settings, including general and specialist hospitals, rehabilitation and primary care centres, sports and hydrothermal centres, geriatric homes, special education schools, mutual and accident insurance companies, and research and teaching institutions, both in the public and private sector. I couldn't find an official third-party ranking, like QS or Guardian, published on the university's own site for this specific programme, so I'd rather not invent a stat here. Happy to look into independent rankings separately if that would help.
