3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

Saint Louis University-Madrid

Program Overview

SLU-Madrid's Bachelor of Science in Economics equips you with the analytical tools and practical knowledge to understand how individuals, firms, and nations make decisions in a world of limited resources. You'll master economic theory and problem-solving skills while studying in Madrid, one of Europe's leading financial capitals, giving you a global perspective on business and policy challenges.

Curriculum Structure

Year One: Building Your Foundation

Your first year establishes the essential groundwork for economic thinking. You'll begin with Principles of Economics (ECON 1900), which introduces you to fundamental economic concepts, alongside Introduction to Business Statistics (OPM 2070) to develop quantitative reasoning skills. You'll also complete foundational mathematics coursework including Survey of Calculus (MATH 1320) or Calculus I (MATH 1510), ensuring you're prepared for more advanced analysis.

Year Two: Core Economic Theory

In your second year, you'll dive into the core of economic analysis with Intermediate Macroeconomics (ECON 3120) and Intermediate Microeconomics (ECON 3140), both prerequisites requiring calculus competency. You'll also take Introduction to Econometrics (ECON 3010), which teaches you how to apply statistical methods to real-world economic data. These courses form the backbone of economic reasoning you'll use throughout your career.

Year Three and Beyond: Specialization and Application

By your third year, you'll select from specialized Major Elective Courses (15 credits total) tailored to your interests, such as Exchange Rates and Global Economics (ECON 4310), Labor Economics (ECON 4400), Sports Economics (ECON 4500), or Health Economics (ECON 4700). This flexibility allows you to explore economic applications in sectors that matter to you while completing your remaining general electives to reach the 120-credit degree requirement.
