Bachelor of Design & Visual Communication

3 Years On Campus Bachelors Program

SAE University College Dubai

Program Overview

The Bachelor of Design & Visual Communication at SAE University College Dubai is a three-year, project-based undergraduate degree that prepares students to create visual solutions, express ideas through design, and shape communication across print, digital, branding, and interactive media. It suits creative individuals who want careers in graphic design, UI/UX, branding, content design, and visual storytelling, combining artistic skills with industry-standard software like Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe XD, and After Effects.

Curriculum structure

Year 1:
In the first year, students establish creative foundations through modules that introduce Design Fundamentals, Visual Communication Principles, and Digital Image-Making. Here learners develop technical proficiency with industry tools such as Photoshop and Illustrator, while also exploring the basics of typography, colour theory, and layout for both print and screen contexts. Early projects immerse students in studio-based learning, where they learn to translate concepts into visual outcomes.

Year 2:
The second year expands into more advanced and applied design areas, including Branding and Identity Design, Online and Print Design, and User-Centred Design, where students learn how to solve real-world communication challenges. Coursework emphasises creative strategy and audience understanding, asking students to craft solutions that work across platforms from posters and packaging to websites and apps. Collaborative projects with peers in media, animation, and audio enable cross-discipline learning and build professional workflows.

Year 3:
In the final year, learners focus on professional practice, portfolio development, and advanced media integration through major projects and Capstone Design Work that showcase their accumulated skills. Elective modules and client-brief experiences encourage students to refine specialties—such as UX/UI, motion graphics, or interactive media—while preparing work for industry presentation. This year positions students for direct entry into professional environments with completed real-world assignments.
